I’m not a huge fan of the sport, but I do love the way NASCAR conducts business!
Unlike the NFL, which seems to encourage disrespect of our country, NASCAR is doing things the right way.
They may only make right turns, butĀ from owners to drivers, nearly the entire sport seems to have a strong sense of respect for our country! Ā And that means the world to me!
From Yahoo Sports, take a look at these details:
While many NFL players kneeled during the āThe Star-Spangled Bannerā before games Sunday, NASCAR crews stood along pit road for the national anthem.
More attention has been paid to the issue sinceĀ President Donald Trump said in a speech Friday that NFL owners should fire players who kneel during āThe Star-Spangled Banner.āā
Several NFL players have not stood for the anthem before games to protest the treatment of blacks by police. Former quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the trend last year when he played with the San Francisco 49ers.
Car owner Richard Childress was asked before Sundayās race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway what the policy was for his team if someone kneeled for the anthem.
āGet you a ride on a Greyhound bus when the national anthem is over,āā Childress said on pit road. āAnybody that works for me should respect the country we live in. So many people gave their lives for it. This is America.āā
Richard Petty told USA Today: āAnybody that donāt stand up for (the anthem) ought to be out of the country. Period. If they donāt appreciate where theyāre at ⦠what got them where theyāre at? The United States.ā
Car owner Joe Gibbs said he didnāt talk about the issue with his team before the race.
āYouāve got an athletic event and thatās what weāre going to have,āā Gibbs said.
Car owner Chip Ganassi said: āI like Mike Tomlinās answer.āā
Tomlin is the coach of the NFLās Pittsburgh Steelers. All but one of his teamās players stayed off the field for the anthem before its game Sunday.
Tomlin told CBS Sports before the game: āWeāre not going to play politics. Weāre football players, weāre football coaches. Weāre not participating in the anthem today. Not to be disrespectful to the anthem, to remove ourselves from the circumstance. People shouldnāt have to choose. If a guy wants to go about his normal business and participate in the anthem, he shouldnāt be forced to choose sides. If a guy feels the need to do something he shouldnāt be separated from his teammates who chooses not to. So weāre not participating today. Thatās our decision.ā
Last year, Austin Dillon talked about how the sport displays patriotism.
āI donāt know how it would go over with the fans ā weāre a very patriotic sport,ā Dillon said if someone in NASCAR would kneel during the anthem. āI think our sport does a good job of showing that everyĀ Saturday,Ā SundayĀ of showing patriotism and what the flag means.Ā Not only that, we have a lot of military out here each and every weekend.
āIāve got SEAL guys that will personally text me and say, āHey, thank you for not moving around (during the anthem). ⦠It means a lot to them just to stand at attention.ā
The drivers have also come out in criticism of the NFL:
Sad to see the blatant disrespect from the Steelers. If u aren't going to honor those who gave their lives for our freedom, then leave the US
