Sometimes it’s very clear that there’s not a fair fight going on.
That was the case when Megyn Kelly thought she could interview Vladimir Putin. Talk about fighting out of your weight class! Putin verbally threw her around like a rag doll. You almost started to feel sorry for Meg….almost.
This was the debut interview for Kelly in her new role at NBC Sunday night. Kelly pushed Putin again and again on topics of interference with the 2016 election and ties to the Trump camp, including security adviser Michael Flynn.
At one point Kelly asked, “Do you have something damaging on our president?” Putin made a very clear denial.
Later, she pressed again about Michael Flynn, and Putin made clear he had very little communication with Flynn. Dead story, not going anywhere. One of my favorite parts was when Putin shot back: “You and I, you and I personally, have a much closer relationship than I had with Mr. Flynn. You and I met yesterday evening. You and I have been working together all day today. And now we’re meeting again.” I love it!
Then Kelly went back to asking again about the Trump camp and alleged communications. Kelly asked: “You’ve said that your ambassador, Kislyak, was just doing his job, right? So, what exactly was discussed in those meetings?” Putin wasted no time shooting back at her again: “There were no meetings. I — you understand? There were no meetings,” Putin said. “When I saw this, my jaw dropped.”
Kelly asked AGAIN: “No meetings between Ambassador Kislyak and anybody from the Trump campaign?” “I have no idea,” Putin said, appearing obviously irritated. “I’m being completely honest with you. I don’t know. The routine job of an ambassador — do you think that from all over the world or from the United States, the ambassador reports to me every day who he meets with or what they discuss there?”
At the end, Putin landed the knock out blow: “That’s complete nonsense. Do you even understand what you’re asking or not?”
