When Brett Kavanaugh was nominated to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, many were surprised that President Donald Trump didn’t choose Amy Coney Barrett, another name that was heavily floated as a potential replacement.
Barrett currently serves as the Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and was appointed by Trump. In the event that Ruth Bader Ginsburg passes away or retires, Barrett can expect to find herself on the top of Trump’s SCOTUS shortlist this time around. After her most recent health scare, Ginsburg missed SCOTUS arguments for the first time in her career.
According to AXOIS:
As he was deliberating last year over replacing Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, President Trump told confidants he had big plans for Judge Amy Coney Barrett.
“I’m saving herfor Ginsburg,”Ā Trump said of Barrett, according to three sources familiar with the president’s private comments. Trump used that exact line with a number of people, including in a private conversation with an adviser two days before announcing Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination.
During the decision of who to appoint to replace Kennedy, there were concerns that Barrett’s staunch pro-life stances would alienated GOP moderates such as Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, but Kavanaugh shared the same stance. Regardless, it seems pointless to pick SCOTUS candidates based on whether they appeal to fake Republicans.
Judge Amy Coney Barrett's education didn't appeal to Trump when he was considering her to replace Justice Kennedy, according to sources familiar with his thinking.
She went to law school at Notre Dame, and Trump prefers Harvard or Yale grads. https://t.co/G8q745GHBv

I want the replacement of Ginsburg on #SCOTUS, whenever that happens, to be as painful as possible for the Marxist Abortionists, and no doubt Amy Coney Barrett is the one who would accomplish that on so many different levels. #maga #tcot https://t.co/AtRsPzuOoq

Amy Coney Barrett would make a great Supreme Court Justice. @TomSteyer would cry every day for the rest of his life if he heard about Ruth Bader Ginsburg actually retiring, cause right now it's a rumor just floating around. If it did happen, he would.https://t.co/66ntgMHXIA

Democrats, meanwhile, are panicking:
If it comes to this, it could escalate the culture wars in the USA to a whole new level: https://t.co/NXQ6mGa8Ee #SupremeCourt https://t.co/MfoMedjMyz
