Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema, of Arizona, has joined the Trump administration in calling upon her Congressional colleagues to secure the border.
Arizonans bear the brunt of Washington’s failure to address our broken immigration system. We must secure the border with a comprehensive, smart, bipartisan approach – we’re calling on @DHSgov to send additional resources and staff to AZ ports. pic.twitter.com/qZGq3LgLmF

This comes as a welcome surprise, as Republicans would clearly benefit from peeling off a few Democrats to support what should be a non-partisan issue: shoring-up the border and getting immigration reform done. This apparently includes working with the GOP to “Build That Wall!”

Working with Republicans to get the border crisis under control is good for border States and the country.
Good for @kyrstensinema for actually WORKING for her constituents! Only TWO Senators that signed the letter asking for funding cuts for DHS represent border states…maybe there is hope for the Democrat party!!

Congress and the government at large are responsible for the mess at the U.S.-Mexico border. Republicans and Democrats know this. However, the Democrats have chosen to work against the Trump administration at every turn.
Purple and Red State Democrats do not have the luxury of being able to play that partisan game. With this in mind, National Review has a piece on Senator Sinema’s break from her party and rational stance on the border situation:
“Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D., Ariz.) on Wednesday urged her colleagues to come to a bipartisan compromise to reform the immigration laws that have allowed a record number of migrants to cross the southern border in recent months.
Sinema joined the Department of Homeland Security and the White House in calling attention to the failure of U.S. immigration law to address the record number of Central American asylum-seekers streaming across the border. Under current law, those migrants are legally entitled to remain in the U.S. while their cases are being adjudicated.
The problem is further exacerbated by the composition of the migrants; many of them are women and children who cannot be detained in facilities that were designed to house single men. The lack of adequate resources forced authorities to release 18,500 immigrants from federal detention into Arizona between December 21 and March 20.”
This, however, is not the first time Sen. Sinema has decided to support the President. Republicans may remember what happened during Trump’s State of the Union address back in February, covered, here, by Town Hall:
“While Democrats rarely clapped during the address, instead choosing to act like a bunch of sour patch kids, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) decided to stand and clap, which prompted her colleague Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) to seemingly say, ‘watch your ass.'”

Sen. Sinema may be one of a very select few, but it is a start. Something must be done to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country and Trump and the GOP need to hit Democrats hard with the fact that they don’t share in their common-sense stance.
