Do as the Romans do. Or just beat them on Twitter.
It is now official – President Trump has more followers on Twitter than Pope Francis, with 39.7 followers to the Pope’s 39.5.
Trump has used Twitter to become the most powerful politician on Earth. It is ironic to think that so many in the GOP, Democrat and media establishment (okay, so we’re repeating ourselves after the comma) have criticized the POTUS as a candidate and a leader for posting daily tweets.
As Scott Adams put it, “Sure, (Twitter) worked for (Trump) a thousand times in row, but (Democrats say) there’s no way it will work 1001 times.”
More from USA Today:
Francis used to hold the title with his audience of 39.5 million followers on the social media site when adding up the papal accounts that send the same messages in Spanish, English, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, French, Latin, German and Arabic, according to measurements kept by public relations firm Burson-Marsteller and first reported by Politico.
Former President Barack Obama’s Twitter feed, @barackobama, still has more followers than Trump — 95.6 million as of Wednesday.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with 34.9 million followers for @narendramodi, plus an additional 21.3 million followers who track the @PMOIndia prime minister’s office account, is the second most followed world leader on Twitter.
Trump had the fifth- and sixth-largest audiences among world leaders on Twitter with 20.5 million and 15.6 million followers — on the @potus and @WhiteHouse accounts he inherited in January.
Burson-Marsteller has been tracking Twitter followers of world leaders, along with other social media metrics for several years. It does not account for fake bot followers.
