President Trump is a great pitch-man. He understands how to praise and yet undermine an opponent at the same time.
Posting today on Twitter, the POTUS acknowledged that Fox is now a dominant news source over CNN…in America.
But ever the fair-arbiter of public opinion, Trump also pointed out that CNN remains a major news outlet around the world, representing the United States to foreign lands…before pointing out that they do so “very poorly!”
More from The Hill:
President Trump praised Fox News and ripped CNN on Saturday, saying on Twitter that the conservative-leaning news network is more important than the cable network.
“Fox News is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!” the president said in a tweet.
The tweet comes amid tensions over a potential merger between AT&T and Time Warner. The Justice Department allegedly told AT&T to sell off either CNN’s parent company or DirecTV as a condition of approving the merger.
The department formally sued AT&T to block the $85 billion merger on Monday, arguing that it would hurt competition and consumers.
AT&T has denied it has offered to sell the cable network, or that it would in the future.
The Justice Department move has drawn criticism from observers who note that Trump is often critical of CNN.
Trump railed against the merger on Tuesday, telling reporters it would be bad for the U.S.
“Personally, I’ve always felt that that was a deal that’s not good for the country,” the president said.
…and the liberal conspiracy-mongering begins!
On the same day that Trump attacked CNN International. Coincidence? https://t.co/60rCINaBv2
