The failing New York Times reported today that James Comey asked the Justice Department to publicly say that Trump’s tweet about Towergate was false.
Comey argued that Trump was implying that the FBI had broken the law and that the DOJ should deny that the FBI broke the law immediately.
The way that so many officials in Washington are reacting shows there is definitely something very fishy going on here. If James Comey feels so strongly about this, why doesn’t he release a statement himself? He is the director of the FBI, after all. And there are no laws forbidding him from releasing his own statement.
Here’s my hunch – James Comey got himself into too much hot water with the Democrats when he sent those two letters to Congress during the election about the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. It doesn’t look like he wants to draw any attention to himself this time, but unnamed senior officials told the New York Times about what he’s been doing behind the scenes.
Stay tuned for more information about Towergate. Time to figure out what really happened here.
